Program Overview

Developed with sustainable development in mind, this multi-year program brings to the northern communities an adrenaline-driven activity, opportunities for leadership development and a unique platform to raise awareness about new local ecotourism opportunities in their community.

For youth by youth

The program encourages “for youth by youth” activities in the community drawing on the power of young people to reach out to their less active peers, to develop their leadership skills within, and to break down the barriers to active living that many young people encounter. One week initiation camps provide a unique occasion to build interaction between the team and the community


Activity Programs 


A New Dynamic Sport 

The sport is evolving rapidly in the North in many communities . Through 40 monts of community development, 24 weeks of community based activities, 22 instructors trainned, 850 plus initated to the sport in 12 communities the bases is getting there for the sport to develop.
Last year 15 participants from 9 communities participated to this 4 day race program (Triangle race, long distance, speed runs).  The event is praised by every participants, It is a unique occasion for them to  share their passion with people from other communities, ride with them and develop new friendship,  race against them and develop their competitive spirit. It is also a unique occasion to witness the evolution of northern rider’ skills, give special training clinics, and reach out to host community residents.

About Anurratuq Inuit Nunangani

Anurratuq Inuit Nunangani, in Inuktitut « The wind rises on the land of Inuit » is a Canadian non-profit organisation that uses sports, to create new on the land opportunities for youth in northern communities. Programs developed aim to increase youth access to the land and reconnect with nature and their environment while creating new opportunities for themselves and for their community. 


About the Arctic Wind Riders program

The program provides youth and young adults expertise and ownership in kite skiing. A unique new way for everyone to harness wind power in winter & spring to travel over snowy tundra, frozen lakes, bay, fjords and coastal sea ice. A modern way to use wind power, to enjoy freedom on the land, or travel to fishing or hunting grounds. The program includes community initiation camp, instructor training, race, games, regional championship and local adventure-tourism initiatives. Since 2006, 23 communities of Nunavik and Nunavut have initiated local kite ski clubs. 

Arctic Wind Riders is an exciting and innovative youth program based on a new on the land activity perfectly suited for the North.  Developed with sustainability in mind, the program combines adrenaline-filled activities and leadership development opportunities for emerging leaders in northern communities.
